Judge sets a new November hearing
The Fernandez Pedra trial will continue on November 4 after Friday’s hearing could not proceed to a full treatment of the case. The defendant rejected another proposed lawyer, and the judge warned that proceedings cannot be postponed indefinitely while legal representation remains unresolved.
Conditional release denied
The judge again denied conditional release and ordered Fernandez Pedra to remain in pretrial detention. The court referred to the seriousness of allegations arising from the January 4 collision on L.G. Smith Boulevard, while stressing that the accusations still have to be proven.
Charges concern fatal January collision
Prosecutors accuse Fernandez Pedra in a crash that killed pedestrians Josely Paulina Vasquez Gonzalez and Carlos David Vialez Valerio. Allegations include two homicides, two attempted homicides, leaving the scene, impaired driving and driving without a valid licence. The defendant apologized to the families.
