Several pensioners in Aruba have expressed concern after discovering that the promised Afl. 250 Reparatietoeslag was not paid to all retirees, as previously announced.
According to information received, the additional allowance does not apply to pensioners who receive more than one pension, meaning retirees who also receive a government pension through APFA were excluded from the payment.
This has caused confusion and frustration among affected pensioners, as the government had publicly referred to the Reparatietoeslag as an additional increase to the general AOV pension, which many understood to mean all elderly pensioners.
No clear explanation or clarification was provided beforehand regarding exclusions, pensioners told the newsroom. The lack of communication has led to disappointment, especially among those who had already included the amount in their household budgeting.
Meanwhile, the SVb announced a separate minor pension increase of Afl. 28, meaning couples receive Afl. 14 each. However, pensioners note that when combining this amount with the Reparatietoeslag, the total increase does not match expectations.
Some pensioners report receiving a total increase of approximately Afl. 187, instead of the anticipated Afl. 250. While the difference may appear small, pensioners stress that every florin counts, particularly due to the high cost of living and recent price increases, especially during the expensive month of December.
