ORANJESTAD — Police, together with personnel from the Department of Traffic (DTP), took action Thursday morning, confiscating all e-steps and scooters parked on public roads, primarily in the hotel area. NoticiaCla was present and spoke with the responsible minister, drs Arthur Dowers, and has a report on the confiscation operation.

The crackdown comes one week after Minister of Justice Arthur Dowers announced that authorities would begin removing e-steps, e-bikes, and scooters from public roads. DTP staff and police began physically carrying out the removal operation Thursday morning.

During an interview at Strandpolitie, Dowers explained that police, together with DTP, are conducting a coordinated operation to remove the devices from the roads. “We have given many opportunities for people to remove the steps, but there is still a group that does not want to accept what the law says in Aruba,” Dowers said.

“The use of these types of devices on public terrain is illegal, and now we are taking action to remove them.” According to the minister, those who do not comply will have their devices confiscated, after which it will be determined whether they can get their property back, as the law stipulates.

The operation was described as extensive, with many devices already removed but still a significant number requiring enforcement action.
