ORANJESTAD – On Saturday evening, the Dutch Caribbean Coast Guard intercepted a small vessel with 16 undocumented men on board as it was heading towards Aruba. The interception occurred after the boat was detected in the waters near the island, prompting a swift response from the Coast Guard.
Two individuals were formally arrested, while the remaining 14 men were taken into the custody of the Coast Guard for processing. The operation involved the deployment of both a patrol vessel and an aircraft to successfully intercept the boat. All individuals were transported to the Coast Guard support station in Savaneta for further handling.
While authorities have not disclosed the nationalities or the intended plans of the men, the event underscores ongoing concerns regarding illegal maritime migration in the southern Caribbean. The Coast Guard remains vigilant, continuing to monitor the waters for any unauthorized crossings into Aruba.
This interception serves as a reminder of the persistent challenges faced by Caribbean nations in addressing illegal migration and securing maritime borders. The Coast Guard has assured the public that they are committed to maintaining the safety and security of the island’s shores.
