Early Sunday morning, the Aruba Coast Guard (Wardacosta) received a distress notification from the sailing vessel White Cloud, which was experiencing mechanical problems at sea.
The vessel’s captain reported engine failure and indicated that the boat was unable to continue navigating. The Coast Guard operations center in Aruba immediately dispatched a patrol vessel to the location of the sailboat near Aruba’s waters.
Upon arrival, the Coast Guard patrol boat found the White Cloud with two people on board. The vessel was safely towed to Barcadera, where it was securely moored without further incident.
Safety Reminder to Boat Owners
The Coast Guard is reminding boat owners of the importance of regular vessel maintenance to prevent emergencies at sea. For personal safety on board, vessels should always be equipped with:
- A sufficient number of life jackets
- A flashlight with batteries and a whistle
- A first aid kit
- Adequate drinking water
- Fire extinguishing equipment
- A VHF radio or a fully charged mobile phone
These precautions can help reduce the risk of accidents or dangerous situations at sea for both boaters and swimmers.
The Coast Guard emphasized that in case of emergency, assistance can be requested by calling 913 or via WhatsApp at +5999 510 0913.
Boaters are encouraged to enjoy Aruba’s waters and beaches safely and responsibly.
