ORANJESTAD — Café The Plaza is turning 35, and the landmark venue is marking the milestone with a free two-day celebration on Saturday, October 3 and Sunday, October 4, starting at 2 PM each day.
Organizers promise two days of music, games and good times — with free entrance and deals visitors won’t want to miss.
Saturday: music and 35% off
Saturday’s program kicks off with Grupo di Betico, the Aruban favorite that has been performing for more than 50 years and, in the organizers’ words, is part of the island itself. Their parranda and classic Aruban songs bring young and old together.
The celebration also brings a touch of the Netherlands to Aruba with a guest performance by Menzo Kortland, who sings the biggest Dutch party hits — from Hazes to Joling — and whose impressions of famous Dutch artists have gone viral. Singing along, the organizers warn, is mandatory.
‘Nfuzion takes the stage with Carnival energy, Bradley Fonseca keeps the party going, and MC Jair Dijkhoff guides the crowd through the day. And the best part: on Saturday, guests get 35% off all drinks.
Sunday: Plaza Games and family fun
Sunday is about friendly competition. Visitors can challenge their friends in the Plaza Games — and it’s not just about bragging rights. Cash prizes of up to AWG 350 are on the line: the Oberrace offers up to AWG 350, the Beer Contest up to AWG 250 (18+ with valid ID), and the Eating Contest up to AWG 150 for whoever can eat the most frikandellen.
Music on Sunday comes from GAB and DJ Sky, with MC Jair Dijkhoff hosting. The youngest guests get their own Kids Corner with face painting and a Dino Jump, so the whole family can join in.
Thirty-five years of Café The Plaza means 35 years of atmosphere, good times and great memories — and this weekend, organizers say, is the time to make new ones together.
