Aruba Launches New Voluntourism Initiative: Aruba VTO

VIEWS

Aruba is redefining the meaning of travel with the launch of Aruba VTO, a new voluntourism initiative encouraging visitors to turn their Volunteer Time Off (VTO) into meaningful contributions to local causes—while still enjoying everything the One Happy Island has to offer.

From donkey sanctuary care to coral reef restoration and beach cleanups, the program offers a variety of hands-on opportunities for conscious travelers to give back while on vacation.

🌱 Purpose Meets Paradise: What Is Aruba VTO?

Aruba VTO is more than a campaign—it’s a movement. Partnering with select resorts and NGOs, the Aruba Tourism Authority invites visitors to blend travel with volunteerism, creating immersive experiences rooted in sustainability and compassion.

Participating hotels offer voluntourism packages that combine luxury with environmental or social impact:

🐴 Amsterdam Manor Beach Resort Aruba

  • Daily breakfast on the beach

  • Sunset cocktails

  • Volunteer at Aruba Donkey Sanctuary

  • Participate in beach cleanups

🌊 Bucuti & Tara Beach Resort

  • Join coral reef restoration teams

  • Monitor turtle nests

  • Support mangrove rehabilitation

  • Help with lionfish culling efforts

💆‍♀️ Hilton Aruba Caribbean Resort & Casino

  • “Service Stay” voluntourism package

  • Volunteer with rescued donkeys

  • Free spa treatments and daily breakfast

📝 Request VTO with a Click

To make things easier for workers hoping to participate, Aruba’s official tourism website includes a pre-written VTO request letter. This allows potential travelers to formally request volunteer time off from their employers to join the Aruba VTO experience.

💚 Take the Aruba Promise

In addition to hands-on volunteering, visitors are encouraged to take the Aruba Promise—a pledge to:

  • Travel mindfully

  • Respect the island’s culture and people

  • Leave a positive impact on Aruba’s natural and human environment

👩‍💻 Voluntourism Goes Viral

To further amplify the message, Aruba Tourism has partnered with popular content creator Corporate Natalie, who recently showcased her Aruba VTO experience on social media. Her volunteer work included a beach cleanup and a day at the Aruba Donkey Sanctuary—highlighting the accessibility and joy of purposeful travel.

🎉 Win a Personalized “Out of Office” Message

As part of the launch celebration, travelers can enter a special sweepstakes through August 12 to win a customized Out of Office message from Corporate Natalie herself—blending work humor with the spirit of meaningful travel.

🌍 Why Aruba VTO Matters

“Aruba is more than just a beautiful destination,” said Ronella Croes, CEO of the Aruba Tourism Authority. “It’s a place where meaningful experiences and mindful travel go hand in hand.”

Whether it’s saving sea turtles, protecting donkeys, or simply picking up trash from the beach, Aruba VTO offers visitors the chance to make a real difference while still enjoying the sun, sand, and hospitality the island is known for.

So this year, don’t just travel. Travel with purpose—the Aruba way.
