Aruba childcare law implementation questioned by Jennifer Arends-Reyes

ORANJESTAD (AAN): The Aruba childcare law implementation has come under review as AVP parliamentarian Jennifer Arends-Reyes submitted a series of official questions to the relevant minister, requesting detailed information about the preparation and execution of the Landsverordening Kinderopvang.

According to Arends-Reyes, proper Aruba childcare law implementation is essential to ensure that all children on the island benefit from a safe, high-quality, and accessible childcare system. She emphasized that childcare centers must operate under clear standards, with trained staff and strong supervision.

Arends-Reyes requested an update on the current progress of the Aruba childcare law implementation, including what steps have been taken since the law was approved and how the government plans to execute it. A key concern raised is how the ministry will guarantee clear quality and safety standards across all childcare facilities.

She also highlighted the importance of qualified staff, asking whether minimum requirements for education, training, and certification will be introduced for childcare workers. Additionally, she questioned how inspections will be organized, including who will conduct them and how frequently, stressing that without proper enforcement, the law risks having no real impact.

Another important issue raised in the Aruba childcare law implementation is accessibility. Arends-Reyes asked whether the government plans to introduce financial support or subsidies to assist working families who may struggle to afford childcare services.

She also sought clarity on how existing childcare providers, organizations, and experts are being involved in the process, and how the law will support the development of young children while enabling parents—especially single parents—to participate more actively in the labor market.

Finally, Arends-Reyes proposed exploring digital solutions, such as apps for tracking children’s attendance in childcare centers, to enhance safety and monitoring. She concluded by emphasizing that Parliament has a responsibility to ensure the Aruba childcare law implementation is handled with seriousness and priority in the best interest of the nation’s children.
