The Aruba Chess Federation meeting with Sports Directorate for JSJ Panama 2026 recently took place as preparations continue for the South American Youth Games (JSJ Panama 2026). During the meeting, the federation presented its training plans and discussed the possible participation of two young Aruban athletes.

A few weeks ago, members of the Aruba Chess Federation board met with officials from the Department of Sports (Direccion di Deporte – DdD) under the Aruban Olympic Committee (COA). The discussion focused on the potential participation of two young chess players from Aruba in the upcoming youth games scheduled to take place in Panama in 2026.

As part of the preparation process, the federation also held a meeting with national chess coach Lazaro Antonio Bueno Perez, who explained the structured training program currently being implemented for the federation’s athletes. The plan aims to strengthen the development of young chess players and prepare them for international competition.

The Aruba Chess Federation meeting with Sports Directorate for JSJ Panama 2026 highlighted that the federation has already proposed two young athletes to represent Aruba in the tournament. Chess will participate as an invited sport in the games.

Although chess is not normally included in events within the Olympic Cycle, the host country Panama decided to include the sport in the Panama 2026 Youth Games, recognizing its popularity within the country. As a result, approximately 18 different countries, including Aruba, are expected to take part in the chess competition.

Officials from the Aruban Olympic Committee’s technical department and the Sports Directorate expressed appreciation for the meeting and the presentation of the training strategy. They noted that the federation provided a clear overview of the development program designed to prepare athletes for international participation.

The initiative demonstrates Aruba’s commitment to supporting youth sports and developing talent in disciplines beyond traditional Olympic sports. Through structured training and cooperation with national sports authorities, the Aruba Chess Federation aims to strengthen the skills of its young players and give them the opportunity to compete at the regional level.

Preparations for the JSJ Panama 2026 Youth Games will continue as the federation refines its training programs and works closely with sports officials to ensure the athletes are ready for the competition.
