Aruba Named Safest Island in the Caribbean

Travelers increasingly prioritize safety when choosing international destinations, and a new Caribbean Island Safety Index reveals Aruba as the safest island in the region. The study combines data from travel advisories, crime indexes, hurricane risk, and healthcare infrastructure to score each destination.

Top Safety Scores:

  • Aruba: 9.3/10

  • Barbados: 9.2

  • Grenada: 9.0

  • Curaçao: 9.0

  • Antigua & Barbuda: 8.1

Why Aruba Stands Out

Crime: Aruba scored a near-perfect 9/10 in crime safety. As part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, it benefits from political stability, strong law enforcement, and low levels of violent crime. Most incidents are limited to petty theft, particularly when leaving belongings unattended on public beaches.

Hurricane Risk: Aruba scored a perfect 10/10. Its southern Caribbean location, outside the Atlantic hurricane belt, shields it from most storms and hurricanes, providing reliable, sunny weather year-round.

Healthcare: Aruba offers excellent medical services for its size. The Dr. Horacio E. Oduber Hospital has 248 beds, over 20 medical specialties, and advanced diagnostic capabilities including MRI and CT scans. Numerous clinics are spread across the island, ensuring visitors receive timely care if needed.

Tourism Protection: Aruba’s economy relies heavily on tourism, so authorities maintain a visible police presence and strict regulations to ensure visitor safety.

Traveler Takeaway

With its combination of low crime, minimal hurricane risk, reliable healthcare, and tourist-focused safety measures, Aruba is a standout choice for U.S. and international travelers seeking a secure Caribbean escape.
