Aruba Submits 2022 Annual Financial Report to General Audit Chamber Minister Geoffrey Wever Emphasizes Commitment to Financial Transparency

On Monday, July 7, 2025, Aruba’s Minister of Finance, Economic Affairs, and Primary Sector, Mr. Geoffrey Wever, officially submitted the 2022 Annual Financial Report of the Country of Aruba to the General Audit Chamber (Algemene Rekenkamer). This follows the delivery of the 2021 report last month and marks continued progress toward greater financial transparency and accountability in the legislative process.

The General Audit Chamber is constitutionally responsible for auditing the legitimacy and effectiveness of government revenues and expenditures. During its evaluation, the chamber will examine whether Aruba’s income and spending—as outlined in the 2022 report—complied with existing budget laws and accounting procedures.

Each annual report must include all required financial items and be compiled according to the 1989 Budget Accounting Ordinance (Compatibiliteitsverordening V 1989), which governs how public funds must be managed and reported. The chamber will also assess whether public funds in 2022 were used efficiently (achieving objectives with minimal resources) and effectively (meeting intended goals).

After the review, the General Audit Chamber will publish a report with its findings and provide recommendations to improve Aruba’s public financial management and enhance fiscal oversight.

Minister Wever extended his gratitude to the Department of Finance and the Central Accounting Service for completing both the 2021 and 2022 reports in record time—reducing the delay in Aruba’s annual financial reporting. He also thanked the General Audit Chamber for playing a key constitutional role in strengthening Aruba’s financial governance.
