Union Leader Adrie Williams Brings Message of Digital Labor Rights to TOPA in Aruba

ORANJESTAD (AAN): In a move to empower a new generation of labor leaders, Adrie Williams of Curaçao’s Central General di Trahadornan di Corsou (CGTC) visited Aruba to present to delegates and board members of the TOPA union. Joining him was his son, Diadrie Williams, a social media influencer and advocate for youth engagement.

The presentation aimed to guide newly appointed union leaders in adapting to today’s evolving labor landscape — especially the impact of digital job platforms, remote hiring, and changing labor laws. Williams emphasized the need to revise union statutes to match modern realities and called for strategic ways to attract younger workers into union participation.

His son Diadrie contributed by sharing insights into how social media can be used to inspire and mobilize young people around labor rights and solidarity.

One of the central topics was the challenge posed by digital work platforms. “These systems often blur who the actual employer is, which can strip away the ability to demand fair labor rights,” said Williams. He praised the International Labour Organization (ILO) for recently addressing this issue and advocating for protections that preserve union rights in the digital era.
