Discover Carnival in Aruba: A Season of Color, Culture, and Celebration

ORANJESTAD, ARUBA — Carnival in Aruba isn’t just a festival—it’s a way of life. From early January through March, the island bursts into color, rhythm, and high-spirited celebration as Aruba’s Carnival takes over streets, hearts, and calendars.

Now celebrating its 65th edition, Carnival is deeply embedded in Aruban culture. As soon as one Carnival ends, preparations for the next begin: designing costumes, crafting parade floats, composing road march anthems, and organizing events that will soon fill the island’s calendar.

🎉 It All Starts with Light – Torch Parade (Parada di Flambeu)

Aruba’s Carnival season kicks off with the Torch Parade, or Fakkel Optocht—once lined with real flaming torches, it’s now transformed into a spectacular night of LED lights, glowing paint, and electrifying energy. Streets pulse with music as locals dance, glow, and celebrate in elaborate, light-filled costumes.

🥁 The Beat of Tradition

From Jump-ins and King & Queen elections to Calypso competitions, live concerts, kid-friendly festivities, and street parties, the Carnival schedule is packed with weekly events leading up to the Grand Parades. The entire island gets involved, turning every neighborhood into a Carnival stage.

🌟 Must-See Highlights:

  • Lighting Parade in Oranjestad – a dazzling nighttime spectacle

  • Jouvert Morning (Pajama Parade) in San Nicolas – a sunrise celebration like no other

  • Hebbe Hebbe Festival – a downtown street fest favorite

  • The Grand Carnival Parades – held in both San Nicolas and Oranjestad, with costumes, music, and performances that rival anything in the Caribbean

🔥 Ending with a Flame – Burning of King Momo

Carnival culminates in the Burning of King Momo, a symbolic farewell to earthly pleasures before the start of Lent. The tradition, held at Oranjestad Harbor, marks the close of this exuberant season with a moment of cultural reflection.

Don’t just watch Carnival live it. Whether you’re dancing in the street, glowing under the lights, or simply soaking in the vibe, Aruba’s Carnival offers an unforgettable blend of tradition, joy, and island pride.

📅 Plan your Carnival experience now at VisitAruba.com and be part of the celebration that defines Aruba’s heart and soul.
