The AVP council has asked Prime Minister Mike Eman to continue discussions with business associations and the commercial sector about a gradual minimum wage increase over three years, NoticiaCla reports. The instruction came at the party council’s meeting on Monday evening, November 2.
Business compensation remains part of the talks
The proposal includes compensation for small and medium-sized businesses. According to the report, Eman said business associations had not attended earlier meetings and urged them to return to discussions and explain what support they needed.
No final decision date announced
Party leader Wendrick Cicilia pointed to a gap between the minimum wage and the subsistence level as a source of pressure on lower-income households. Eman argued that an Afl. 200 wage increase would have limited effects on prices; that is his assessment, not an independently established price forecast.
The account does not announce an enacted wage rate or a completed compensation agreement. Eman said agreement between the parties was still needed and gave no date for a final decision.
