MEP has submitted written questions to the economic affairs minister about delays affecting Aruba business permits, DIARIO reported on October 29. The parliamentary faction wants figures on pending applications, processing times and when the backlog will be cleared.
Departmental note describes processing pressures
According to the report’s account of an October 23 DEZHI note to Parliament, the department acknowledged delays since early 2026. Limited staffing, an office move, a cloud transition and the cancellation of about 1,100 inactive permits contributed to the backlog. More than 1,500 further cancellations are planned for early 2027.
Questions address capacity and legal safeguards
MEP is seeking measures to prevent the remaining file cleanup from slowing regular applications. It also asks about protection for businesses whose permits might be cancelled incorrectly, and the cloud project’s timetable, budget and data safeguards. The faction requested written answers within three weeks.
