Aruba teacher support should include continuing professional development and access to specialist help, PPA parliamentarian Eduard Pieters said in comments reported by 24ora on October 18.
Questions follow a public parliamentary meeting
24ora reported that Pieters had questioned Education Minister Gerlien Croes after the previous week’s public meeting, focusing on the support structure for pupils and teachers. He challenged whether the ministry was making sufficient use of professional advice on education policy.
Training and specialist assistance
Pieters called for practical, continuing training to help teachers manage classrooms with differing learning, behavioural and emotional needs. According to the report, he said training should be backed by pupil-care services, internal guidance, school leadership and access to specialists when a child needs additional assistance.
He also said more than 200 professionals had previously contributed to a vision document on the education care structure. That figure is attributed to Pieters in 24ora’s account.
Call to consult education professionals
Pieters urged the government to analyse and plan changes with the professionals who work in Aruba’s classrooms. His comments are a call for action, not an announcement that a new support programme has been adopted.
