The John G. Eman building in Oranjestad has entered the first phase of restoration, English 24ora reported on October 15.
Preservation work moves into its first phase
The report describes the beginning of work on the historic building associated with Aruba’s banking history. It does not provide a completion date or a detailed construction schedule.
Prime Minister Mike Eman linked the monument to the history and identity of the city centre. He also pointed to the role historic properties can play as downtown competes with shopping areas near the hotels, according to the report.
Restoration linked to downtown renewal
Finance and Economy Minister Geoffrey Wever said preserving historic buildings remains a government priority alongside revitalising Oranjestad.
The report presents the project as part of that conservation effort, rather than announcing the completion or reopening of the building.
