An Aruba traffic safety warning from Police Commissioner Ramon Arnhem is calling on drivers to change risky behaviour after the island recorded its 13th road death of 2026.
Police commissioner calls the trend unacceptable
Arnhem said he is deeply concerned by the number of crashes and fatalities. He stressed that every victim is one too many and appealed to the entire community to take responsibility behind the wheel.
Drivers urged to remove common risks
Aruba Police asked motorists to obey traffic rules, put mobile phones aside, respect speed limits and never drive after consuming alcohol or other impairing substances. Drivers were also urged to hand over their keys when necessary, hold a valid licence and pay particular attention to older road users.
The police message warned that a single decision or a momentary lapse can permanently affect a driver, a victim, their families and other members of the community.
Traffic enforcement will continue
KPA said it will maintain intensive traffic checks. Violations may lead to fines and, where circumstances warrant, detention. The agency framed road safety as a shared responsibility because each driver’s conduct affects everyone using the road.
