Advocate Ursell Arends is urging the government and Parliament to make Aruba elder care investment an explicit priority in public planning.
Facilities face maintenance and equipment needs
Arends said quality care depends on suitable infrastructure, materials, capacity and stable financing as well as laws and standards. Private care homes manage about 300 beds and SABA about 200, according to Diario.
He proposed urgent maintenance, facility upgrades, equipment purchases and closer cooperation with care providers while broader regulatory work continues.
Structured plan and financing review proposed
Arends called for a renewed dialogue involving providers, financial experts and other partners. He said the process should identify urgent needs, legally sustainable financing options, responsibilities, budgets and timelines.
He referenced earlier sector plans and studies as a foundation for action and asked the government to report transparently on next steps. His financing suggestions remain proposals and would require legal, risk and repayment review.
