Lawmaker requests direct labor talks
MEP parliamentarian Shailiny Tromp-Lee has asked the Labor Committee to arrange a meeting with Aruba’s labor minister about DAO and DPL. According to NoticiaCla, her request was sent to committee president Clifford Heyliger and seeks a direct discussion of four current labor-policy issues.
The proposed agenda covers the reorganization of DAO and DPL, including how changes could affect the departments’ operations and public services.
Staffing and youth wages are on the agenda
Tromp-Lee also wants an update on employee conditions inside the departments and the effect of staffing challenges on residents who use their services. She is requesting the current status and next steps for a youth minimum wage.
Inspection capacity also needs clarification
The fourth issue is labor inspection and enforcement. Tromp-Lee is seeking information on current capacity, actions under way and measures needed to enforce labor laws. She said direct talks could clarify the issues and help identify improvements.
