Aruba-born Demi-Ann Tromp earned a mechanical-engineering degree while building an aircraft-maintenance career at KLM in the Netherlands.
An Aruba interest becomes an aviation career
Demi-Ann Tromp grew up in Aruba and became interested in aircraft maintenance after a teacher suggested the profession when she was about 16. Training at EPI and internships with InselAir in Curaçao and Jet International in Aruba confirmed her interest in aviation.
Study continues through an industry shutdown
Tromp moved to the Netherlands in 2016 for aircraft-technology training. When the pandemic limited aviation jobs after her 2020 graduation, she continued studying, completing an associate degree and then an HBO degree in mechanical engineering in 2026.
Work at KLM and the next licence
She joined KLM in September 2024 and now works as an Aircraft Mechanic Level 0 under licensed supervision, mainly on Boeing 737 and Airbus A321 aircraft. Tromp is continuing training toward an EASA Aircraft Maintenance Licence in the B1 mechanical discipline.
