Two initiatives await formal responses
MEP parliamentarian Edgard Vrolijk says two Aruba Parliament bills cannot move forward because responsible members of government have not supplied formal responses. One proposal would anchor the Ombudsman in Aruba’s Constitution. The other would reform student loans and provide 50 percent forgiveness for qualifying graduates, including people who studied locally and those who returned after studying abroad.
Vrolijk cites delays of several months
According to Vrolijk, Parliament has waited more than nine months for Prime Minister Mike Eman’s position on the Ombudsman proposal. He said student-loan responses have been pending for more than three months from ministers Wendrick Cicilia, Gerlien Croes and Geoffrey Wever. These are Vrolijk’s claims, not independent findings.
Next steps remain in Parliament
Vrolijk said the Ombudsman proposal still needs Central Committee consideration, where lawmakers can determine whether it has enough support. He argued that the requested government positions are needed before Parliament can properly evaluate both initiatives and called for the outstanding replies.
