The Willem Rasmijn book launch will take place at the National Library of Aruba in Oranjestad on Thursday, September 17.
Literary and cultural program planned
The free event is scheduled from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the library on George Madurostraat. The program will include lectures, a documentary screening, music and singing, with performances by a Tambú group and a traditional ensemble.
The evening is being organized with National Library representative Astrid Britten, Department of Culture Aruba representative Siegfried Dumfries and linguist and cultural manager Mirto Laclé.
Book explores Aruba’s gold-rush history
Author Edgar Ras will present Willem Rasmijn, The Story of His Life and the Aruban Gold Rush, a historical-literary work that combines history and fiction in a tribute to Rasmijn and Aruba’s past.
Ras served for 42 years in the Aruba Police Force and also worked as an instructor, curriculum developer and acting head of the Police Academy. Copies of the book will be available for purchase during the event.
