A joint maritime operation resulted in a cocaine seizure west of Aruba involving 297 kilograms, according to a September 12 report citing Colombian naval authorities.
Aircraft tracked a go-fast boat
Diario reported that Colombian naval surveillance and a Dutch Caribbean Coast Guard Dash-8 aircraft detected and tracked the vessel north of Colombia and west of Aruba. A rapid-response unit from Santa Marta pursued the boat after its occupants allegedly tried to evade authorities.
Four people transferred to Colombian police
The report said four Venezuelan nationals surrendered. Authorities recovered 12 large bundles containing 297 packages that field-tested positive for cocaine. Colombian officials estimated the shipment’s value at more than US$13 million. The boat, seized material and detainees were returned to Colombia for further investigation and judicial proceedings; no convictions have been reported.
