MEP parliamentarian Hendrik Tevreden wants youth research added to the developing Aruba mental health plan and suicide-prevention strategy.
Lawmaker questions adult-only survey
Tevreden supports the plan but questioned why its survey begins at age 18. He cited a youth monitor of 2,344 students, mostly aged about 10 to 14.
Previous study showed concerns
Figures he presented said nearly 29% worried frequently, almost 34% worried about their future, 24% frequently felt nervous, and about 18% frequently felt lonely or sad. The study did not measure suicide directly. Tevreden called for safeguards and support protocols for research involving minors.
