The appeals court has delayed consideration of Cornelio Hermanus’s conditional-release request for one year because housing, treatment and safety arrangements remain incomplete.
Court says release plan is not ready
DIARIO reported that Hermanus, 67, is serving a life sentence for the killing of Raul Croes in Dakota. The prosecutor general asked for more time because authorities had not secured an overnight residence or completed a concrete treatment and reintegration plan.
Representatives involved in the process described work with KIA, probation services, the government and Stichting Eliezer. The court also asked about an alternative plan if the proposed placement failed, but no backup arrangement was available.
Victim’s family opposes release
Members of Croes’s family addressed the court and opposed conditional release. Hermanus apologized in court and said he was willing to follow treatment.
The Cornelio Hermanus parole case will be reviewed again after further reporting. The court ordered the prosecutor general and defense to provide information by March 1, 2027, and said an earlier hearing could be scheduled if the six-month evaluation supports it.
