OIG Says Oranjestad Investors Need Decisions Soon

Oranjestad Investors Group says private investors need written decisions and a firm implementation timetable after promised government follow-up dates passed without the expected announcements.

OIG said it has continued choosing dialogue and cooperation during months of discussions about revitalizing downtown Oranjestad. The group reported that a broad meeting with government officials and stakeholders had been promised before the parliamentary recess but had not occurred.

Investors waiting for regulatory clarity

According to OIG, members met the infrastructure minister about two weeks ago and left with a positive impression. The organization said an announcement with concrete solutions was expected within roughly one week, but that period also passed without the promised update.

OIG says investors have committed millions of florins, purchased properties, arranged financing and developed projects. Those figures and claims come from the organization and were not independently detailed in the source report.

Fiscal incentives are not enough, group says

The group welcomed recently introduced tax incentives for downtown investment but argued that incentives have limited value without clarity about development rules, procedures and necessary approvals.

OIG is asking for the stakeholder meeting, concrete written solutions and a clear calendar for implementation. The organization said it remains willing to work with the prime minister, relevant ministers and departments, but warned that prolonged uncertainty could cause investors to direct capital elsewhere.

No government response to the latest statement was included in the source report.
