ORANJESTAD (AAN) – Aruba Timeshare Association Discusses Industry Priorities during its latest quarterly meeting, where industry leaders reviewed recent developments, public policy initiatives, sustainability efforts, and investment projects shaping the future of the island’s vacation ownership sector.
Members of the Aruba Timeshare Association (ATSA) gathered to exchange updates on their respective resorts, discuss issues affecting the industry, and reaffirm their shared commitment to strengthening Aruba’s timeshare and vacation ownership sector.
Focus on Social Dialogue, Education and Sustainability
During the meeting, members agreed that the government’s Social Dialogue initiative should continue to involve stakeholders directly affected by proposed policy changes. While discussing the proposed increase in Aruba’s minimum wage, participants emphasized that the agenda should also address matters directly impacting the tourism and hospitality industry, including possible amendments to labor legislation.
ATSA also reaffirmed its commitment to workforce development by announcing that it will once again welcome hospitality students for an interactive introduction to the vacation ownership industry. The half-day educational program is designed to raise awareness of the career and business opportunities available within Aruba’s timeshare sector.
The association further announced plans to develop a comprehensive Code of Ethics Manual that will establish environmental goals, promote sustainable operational practices, and encourage responsible hospitality standards across member resorts. ATSA intends to collaborate with the University of Aruba to compare international best practices and strengthen the initiative.
With the Caribbean hurricane season now underway, members also discussed a request from the Government’s Disaster Management Bureau. ATSA will appoint a Crisis Leader from one of its member resorts to represent the association within National Crisis Team Cluster 8, helping coordinate resources and communication during emergency situations.
Tourism Policy and Visitor Experience
A significant portion of the meeting focused on the recently released Tourism Calibration Framework, a 90-page public policy document presented to Aruba’s Minister of Tourism.
ATSA members welcomed the opportunity to provide recommendations and expressed hope that several longstanding industry priorities will be reflected in the final framework. These include updating Aruba’s Beach Policy, improving visitor transportation through initiatives such as a taxi application, regulating the vacation rental sector, evaluating the frequency and economic impact of cruise ship arrivals, and assessing how cruise tourism affects Aruba’s beaches and the overall visitor experience.
Members also noted that while the framework addresses several important issues, it currently lacks detailed implementation plans and measurable actions. A third round of stakeholder consultations is expected to provide further discussion on practical next steps.
Additional topics included the possible development of a new public beach area in Bushiri and the replacement of damaged palm trees along Eagle Beach Road.
Industry Continues Supporting Aruba’s Economy
ATSA President Sulaika Kelly of Playa Linda Beach Resort introduced the association’s latest newsletter, inviting both members and the public to explore updates on collaborative projects, industry developments, and association initiatives.
According to a recent economic report referenced during the meeting, the Aruba Timeshare Association remains a major contributor to Aruba’s tourism economy and continues to play an important role in supporting the success of the island’s One Happy Island tourism brand.
