ORANJESTAD (AAN) – Aruba has installed four additional Fish Aggregating Devices (FADs) in its territorial waters to improve fishing opportunities and enhance safety for local fishermen.

Tourism, Transport and Labor Minister Wendrick Cicilia announced the deployment as part of the government’s commitment to strengthening Aruba’s fishing industry through sustainable and practical investments.

The newly installed FADs are located near Zeewijk, Sero Colorado, Juana Morto, and Druif. The locations were selected in consultation with local fishermen and other stakeholders to best meet the sector’s needs.

Fish Aggregating Devices are designed to attract fish closer to shore, allowing fishermen to make larger catches without traveling long distances or venturing into foreign waters, reducing operational risks.

Minister Cicilia said the initiative supports the livelihoods of local fishermen while promoting safer and more sustainable fishing practices. The project was funded through tourism-related resources with support from the Aruba Tourism Authority (ATA).

The minister also thanked Captain Aito, Alex Mansur, and Santa Rosa for their contributions to the successful installation and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to working with the fishing community to strengthen the sector.
