ORANJESTAD (AAN) – Prime Minister Mike Eman has expressed Aruba’s solidarity with the people of Venezuela following the devastating earthquakes that struck the country, confirming that Aruba is prepared to assist with humanitarian efforts.
Speaking at a press conference, Eman said the Aruban government immediately contacted Kingdom of the Netherlands authorities to coordinate possible humanitarian assistance and support rescue operations. He noted that Aruba is ready to serve as a logistical hub if Dutch rescue teams require the island for emergency response efforts.
The Prime Minister said the most severely affected areas include La Guaira and the region surrounding Simón Bolívar International Airport, where major infrastructure damage has been reported. He emphasized that the first 48 hours are critical for search-and-rescue operations as emergency teams continue looking for survivors trapped beneath collapsed buildings.
Eman also confirmed he had been in contact with the Dutch Embassy in Caracas, where embassy staff safely evacuated the building after the earthquakes. He said the government had not received confirmed reports of Aruban citizens being affected but continues to monitor the situation closely.
The Prime Minister extended his condolences to the Venezuelan community in Aruba and reaffirmed the island’s commitment to supporting humanitarian relief efforts while authorities continue assessing the disaster’s impact.
