ORANJESTAD (AAN): This year, Savaneta will host the Open Monumentendag on Sunday, June 7, organized by Fundación Savaneta Aruba. Norman Thijsen of the foundation shared details of the day’s program.
The opening and closing ceremonies will be held at Funari, featuring talks and a Creole culinary experience. Visitors can explore five additional locations to experience Savaneta’s rich history. Activities include boat trips, the “Programa Piskechi” workshop where children can learn traditional fishing, and demonstrations of aloe harvesting by Aruba Aloe at Cero Alejandro. Visitors can also watch traditional crafts, including turtle house construction and weaving.
Thijsen emphasized the event’s goal: “Our aim is to showcase Aruba’s past, traditions, and culture. Even aspects no longer present are important for educating our youth about our roots and values. This is central to the day’s activities and cultural appreciation.”
The public is invited to join on Sunday, June 7, starting at 10:00 AM at Funari for the opening protocol, followed by guided visits to the other five areas. Buses will transport visitors to the different activity zones.
