On Tuesday, June 2, the Sindicato di Polis Aruba (SPA) sent four letters to Korpschef Ramon Arnhem regarding critical issues affecting the police force’s well-being and operations. Union President Lito Lacle confirmed that copies of these letters were also submitted to Minister of Justice Arthur Dowers.
The first letter addresses the absence of a formal collaboration protocol with Respaldo for mental health crises. Despite a May 29 deadline for a response, the union has not received an official update. Mr. Lacle noted that street officers continue to work with insecurity seven months after a tragedy last year.
Regarding equipment, the union is seeking clarification on the delivery of bulletproof vests for street service officers, following a management decision from last December. Six months later, no timeline has been provided. Additionally, SPA requested an update on the force’s reorganization.
