Following a recent fatal shooting, the Public Prosecutor authorized preventative police searches in specific districts of Aruba. During a control in Palm Beach, officers arrested a man and confiscated a significant amount of cash and narcotics.
The preventative measures, authorized as “Preventief Fouilleren,” were implemented to increase street safety and reduce the risk of firearm possession following the death of a minor in Palm Beach two weeks ago. The controls were active in District II, covering Palm Beach, J.E. Irausquin Boulevard, and the WVB Boulevard, as well as District III, which includes Pos Chiquito, Sabana Basora, and surrounding streets. The measures were in effect from Friday, May 29, to Sunday, May 31, from 6:00 PM to 6:00 AM.
Police spokesperson Liliana Rasmijn confirmed that during the operation, officers detained a man and discovered a large sum of cash and drugs. The Public Prosecutor and the Aruba Police Force continue to work closely to reinforce security and protect the island’s youth.
