Secretary of State Eric van den Burg recently discussed the relationship between the countries of the Kingdom. He made these remarks during a debate focused on Kingdom Relations, emphasizing the principle of equality.
Van den Burg described the relationship between the Netherlands, Aruba, Curaçao, and St. Maarten as four sisters rather than a mother and three daughters, based on the Charter for the Kingdom of the Netherlands. While noting that the Netherlands handles matters such as foreign affairs and defense, he reiterated that the countries are equal partners. He confirmed that a joint conference is being organized to establish a shared agenda among the four nations.
