A pastor has voiced strong concerns regarding the normalization of social violence and immorality within the Aruban community. In a recent statement, the pastor criticized the growing trend where bystanders film physical altercations between young people rather than intervening or contacting law enforcement. He expressed that it has become normal for adults to encourage conflict or fail to call the police, referencing biblical scripture Romans 2:5 regarding the dangers of hardening one’s heart.
The pastor highlighted several behavioral issues he believes are negatively impacting Aruba, including public drug use and excessive alcohol consumption which he says has taken control of family life. He linked these habits to rising rates of domestic violence, property destruction, and vehicle accidents. The pastor also expressed disapproval of individuals publicizing acts of infidelity on social media platforms to taunt rivals, emphasizing that abuse has become a reaction to relationship breakups.
Comparing the current social climate to Sodom and Gomorrah, he urged the community to focus on discipline and moral upbringing. Citing Proverbs 19:18, the pastor called on residents to maintain integrity and goodness amidst difficult times.
