ORANJESTAD (AAN) – The family of five-year-old Alexander Flores is calling for accountability from Fundacion Pa Nos Muchanan following a critical incident at a childcare facility that nearly resulted in the child’s death.
According to the family, the boy was accidentally left inside a van by staff for five hours and later found unconscious. He required urgent medical transport to Colombia, where he underwent intensive treatment before returning to Aruba. The family recently voiced strong criticism on social media regarding the foundation’s decision to allow staff members involved in the incident to participate in a recent pedagogical workshop and celebration.
In their statement, the family expressed that the foundation’s leadership lacks empathy, arguing that those responsible for the negligence should not be representing an institution dedicated to child welfare. They emphasized that they expected more transparency during the recovery process and criticized the foundation for remaining largely silent.
Additionally, the family directed questions at Minister Gerlien Croes, Minister Arthur Dowers, and the Public Prosecutor’s Office, asking why no legal action has been taken nearly three months after the event. The publication has garnered hundreds of reactions from the local community, with many residents expressing concern over the pace of the investigation and the general supervision of childcare centers in Aruba.
