Minister Wever Announces May Fuel Price Adjustments

ORANJESTAD (AAN) – Minister of Finance, Economic Affairs, and Primary Sector Geoffrey Wever has announced new fuel prices effective May 13. The price of gasoline will be adjusted to Afl. 2.65 per liter, while diesel will be set at Afl. 2.57 per liter.

According to the Department of Economic Affairs, Commerce, and Industry, these adjustments reflect a necessary response to rising costs for petroleum products on the international market. Gasoline will see an increase of 17.2 cents per liter, representing a 6.9% rise, while diesel will increase by 10.5 cents per liter. The price of kerosene will also rise to Afl. 3.02 per liter.

To mitigate the financial burden on consumers, the Cabinet has decided to absorb 50% of the price increase through a reduction in excise taxes. Without this intervention, prices would have climbed to Afl. 2.86 for gasoline and Afl. 2.90 for diesel. The excise tax on gasoline has been lowered by 21.2 cents, and the tax on diesel has been temporarily removed completely, a reduction of 33.2 cents per liter.

These measures, part of the Governance Program 2025-2028, will cost the government an estimated 5.1 million Aruban florins over two months. The Cabinet continues to monitor global volatility, including factors affecting the Strait of Hormuz, and remains committed to managing the economic impact within budgetary norms.
