Aruba Gambling Impact Survey Launches to Study Community Effects
Ministry of Justice Initiates Gambling Impact Survey
The Ministry of Justice, Integration, Public Transport and Energy, led by Minister mr. drs. Arthur Dowers, has initiated a comprehensive gambling impact survey aimed at understanding gambling habits and their effects on the Aruban community. Running from April 30 to May 8, 2026, the study seeks to evaluate both the positive and negative aspects of gambling to inform future legislation and support programs.
Survey Methodology and Locations
An independent research team, in collaboration with students from the University of Aruba, will conduct the survey at strategic locations across the island, including shopping centers, supermarkets, and casinos. Surveyors will be easily identifiable by their pink uniforms and identification badges.
Topics and Participation Details
The questionnaire covers topics such as frequency of play, types of games, and personal consequences experienced. Participation is open to everyone, regardless of gambling frequency, and all responses will remain anonymous. This gambling impact survey follows similar research conducted in Curaçao, Sint Maarten, and the BES Islands, aiming to gather data that will help the Government of Aruba make informed decisions for a safer community.
