ORANJESTAD (AAN) – Minister of Housing, Infrastructure, Internal Services and Communication, Rene Herde, announced the government’s strategic commitment to the continued revitalization of San Nicolas.
The initiative focuses on sustainable growth and stronger community participation while launching a series of transformative projects aimed at strengthening the district’s economic, social, and cultural development.
One of the government’s key priorities is the creation of an attractive city center in San Nicolas. By establishing a central hub for events and activities, the plan seeks to stimulate local businesses, attract visitors, and strengthen community engagement. The same revitalization model may later be applied in Oranjestad.
Significant infrastructure investments are already underway. Renovation work in Kaviti and De Vuyst, together with major improvements along Main Street, reflects the government’s commitment to improving accessibility, safety, and the overall urban experience in San Nicolas.
In collaboration with the Ministry of Economic Affairs, the government also plans to launch an ambitious master plan for Baby Beach. The project includes modern kiosks, beach improvements, construction of a pier, and new public restroom facilities. Similar upgrades are also planned for Mangel Halto to improve the coastal experience for residents and visitors.
Cultural preservation and tourism development remain central to the revitalization efforts. The completion of the Carnival Village project is expected to strengthen San Nicolas as a cultural destination while new kiosk permits will create business opportunities for local entrepreneurs.
The government also confirmed that construction of the MFA San Nicolas building will begin this year. The long-awaited project, delayed since 2017, represents an important investment in community infrastructure and public services.
Housing development continues progressing as well, including the completion of home sales in Colony, creating more opportunities for residents to invest in their future.
Additional modernization efforts around Rodgers and Baby Beach are also planned to maintain the areas as attractive and accessible destinations.
Minister Herde stated that these combined initiatives demonstrate the government’s strong commitment to San Nicolas.
“This is not the end — this is only the beginning,” he concluded.
