On April 20, 2026, a mass shooting occurred at the historic pyramids of Teotihuacán near Mexico City when a man armed with a handgun opened fire on tourists from the top of the Pyramid of the Moon. Authorities confirmed that a Canadian tourist was killed and at least 13 other visitors were injured in the attack.

Among those injured was a woman from Aruba, identified as Francis Rivero, aged 55, who did not suffer gunshot wounds but was hurt while fleeing the scene. Rivero, originally born in Venezuela and holding Dutch nationality, works in the hotel sector in Aruba and later provided a statement to Mexican authorities.

The shooting prompted immediate emergency responses by police and medical personnel. The gunman later took his own life at the site. Investigations are ongoing to determine the motive and how the attacker was able to bring a weapon onto the archaeological site. The archaeological site, located about 30 km northeast of Mexico City, is a major international tourist destination.
