ORANJESTAD (AAN): Director of Monumentenbureau, Raul Gei, emphasized the importance of preserving Aruba’s historical buildings during a recent monument designation ceremony.

The Aruba Heritage Preservation Monumentenbureau initiative includes the restoration and protection of the building located at Bernhardstraat 203, recognized for its significant historical value in San Nicolas.

Gei explained that the structure is one of the oldest religious buildings in the area, which played a key role in prioritizing its conservation. He noted that the process of granting monument status requires careful evaluation and time to ensure long-term protection.

The Aruba Heritage Preservation Monumentenbureau efforts involve close collaboration with the Prime Minister and various partners to identify and safeguard buildings with cultural and historical importance.

Currently, several buildings across Aruba have already received monument status, while others remain under evaluation. Special focus continues to be placed on San Nicolas due to its concentration of historic sites.

Gei also highlighted the importance of cooperation with property owners and the community, stressing that awareness of heritage value is essential for sustainable preservation.

The Aruba Heritage Preservation Monumentenbureau program reflects ongoing commitment to protecting Aruba’s cultural identity for future generations.
