ORANJESTAD (AAN): Prime Minister Mike Eman recently held a strategic meeting with Joanna Kazana Wisniowiecki, Resident Coordinator of the United Nations for the Caribbean region, to strengthen cooperation between Aruba and the UN system.
The Aruba United Nations Cooperation meeting took place at Cocolishi and brought together key representatives to discuss aligning priorities and preparing for the upcoming official UN visit scheduled for May 2026.
During the discussions, both parties emphasized the importance of deepening collaboration and identifying concrete areas where the United Nations can support Aruba’s development goals.
A major focus was on environmental challenges, with Aruba highlighting its position as a Small Island Developing State (SIDS) and the need for improved access to international climate and sustainability funding.
The Aruba United Nations Cooperation dialogue also addressed Aruba’s commitment to the UN’s Agenda 2030 and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including plans to contribute to the Kingdom of the Netherlands’ Voluntary National Review in 2027.
Additionally, discussions included the role of the UN’s Common Country Analysis and how it can guide future cooperation and policy development.
The Aruba United Nations Cooperation initiative reflects Aruba’s ongoing efforts to strengthen multilateral partnerships, enhance resilience, and promote sustainable development for the benefit of its people.
