ORANJESTAD (AAN): After years of construction and renovation, Horacio Oduber Hospital (HOH) celebrated the ceremonial opening of its newly renovated main entrance, marking a significant milestone for Aruba’s healthcare system.
The ceremony gathered directors from HOH, the partners responsible for the expansion and renovation, including SOGA and AIB. Minister of Health, Mervin Wyatt-Ras, and Prime Minister Mike Eman delivered speeches during the event and also cut the ribbon as a symbol of the completion of this phase.
The modernization project of HOH originated from the vision of investing in healthcare, which began under the leadership of Prime Minister Eman in the previous cabinet.
Prime Minister Eman highlighted the significance of the moment, describing the project as the result of a long journey full of challenges but also perseverance, collaboration, and the commitment of all those involved. He made special mention of the ministers who played a key role in the start of the process, recognizing the continuity of the vision and effort throughout different cabinets. He expressed his gratitude to former Minister Richard Visser, former Minister Alex Schwengle, and former Minister Oduber for their significant contributions to the development and initial push of the project.
According to the Prime Minister, this achievement reflects that national progress results from collaboration and the continuity of public policy, where each phase of leadership has contributed to the common goal of strengthening Aruba’s healthcare system.
Prime Minister Eman also dedicated words of recognition to the medical professionals who have left their mark on the development of healthcare in Aruba. In this context, he proudly mentioned Dr. Horacio Oduber, whose name is carried by the hospital as a tribute to his extraordinary contribution to the healthcare sector.
He also emphasized the contributions of other doctors and medical professionals who, over the years, have provided their knowledge, sacrifice, and commitment to strengthening the healthcare foundation in Aruba, including Dr. Haage, Dr. Saladin, Dr. Ho Kang You, and Dr. Falconi. With this mention, the Prime Minister highlighted that the progress Aruba celebrates today in the Horacio Oduber Hospital is the result of the hard work and dedication of multiple generations of doctors and healthcare leaders.
“This project required sacrifice, dedication, and cooperation from many,” said Eman. “Today, we celebrate with pride that we’ve achieved an important step in medical care in Aruba.”
He also highlighted the crucial role of partners like SOGA, AIB, and those involved in the construction and development of the hospital, acknowledging the continued efforts to achieve the final result.
In his speech, the Prime Minister emphasized the importance of quality medical care for the community, stating that investment in healthcare is a priority for the government and an essential pillar for the well-being of the people.
He also expressed his personal gratitude to all the professionals and collaborators who contributed to the process, noting that today’s achievement is the result of collective work and constant dedication.
The newly renovated main entrance not only improves access and functionality for the hospital but also represents a symbol of progress in Aruba’s healthcare system.
