ORANJESTAD (AAN) – The Government of Aruba has officially launched a comprehensive review and modernization of the Aruba Beach Policy, marking a significant step in managing its valuable natural resource: public beaches.
The current policy, the RRIS (Richtlijn Ruimtelijke Inrichting Stranden), has been in place for over ten years. However, due to rapid tourism growth, evolving spatial demands, and environmental concerns, it requires urgent updating. The government aims to revise and modernize the Aruba Beach Policy, introducing stricter regulations and ensuring better beach distribution.
Minister of Tourism, Transport, and Labor Wendrick Cicilia emphasized that Aruba’s beaches are public and accessible to all, stating that no beach is owned by a hotel. The modernization process, supported by inter-ministerial cooperation, aims to ensure that future beach management reflects sustainability and broad stakeholder participation.
A structured dialogue with regional stakeholders, including hotels, tour operators, and environmental groups, will follow to ensure inclusive policy development.
