MEP Raises HOFA Issue at IPKO Meetings

MEP HOFA IPKO discussions took place during informal meetings at the Interparliamentary Kingdom Consultation (IPKO) held in Aruba from February 19 to 21, 2026.

Although the HOFA topic was not officially included on the IPKO agenda, the MEP faction deliberately brought the issue forward during informal discussions with Dutch parliamentarians.

Aruba hosted this high-level interparliamentary meeting, which gathered parliamentary delegations from Aruba, Curaçao, Sint Maarten, and the Netherlands. Most sessions were held at Hyatt Place Aruba, with several meetings open to the public. The three-day program focused on strategic future-oriented cooperation within the Kingdom.

Parliamentarian Evelyn Wever-Croes expressed satisfaction with the intense and productive discussions. Among the highlights were detailed presentations by the Aruba Airport Authority (AAA), as well as a visit to the airport to review expansion progress. She noted that the project is continuing under the current government and is progressing even further than originally planned.

Other presentations covered topics such as National Security, Cybersecurity, Climate Change, and Elderly Care. However, according to Wever-Croes, the most significant conversations occurred during informal sessions and personal exchanges between delegations.

The HOFA issue became a recurring subject of discussion. While not formally listed on the IPKO agenda, the MEP faction intentionally introduced the topic in side meetings. Dutch parliamentarians reportedly showed considerable interest in receiving more information about HOFA.

The MEP faction also formally requested that complex topics such as HOFA, the democratic deficit, and Kingdom relations be included on the agenda for the next IPKO meeting.

“More and more Dutch parliamentarians themselves are asking questions to better understand the issue, especially since they will ultimately be responsible for handling the law if the governments of Aruba and the Netherlands decide to proceed,” Wever-Croes stated.

She concluded by saying Aruba represented itself well during IPKO 2026 and praised the MEP faction for its participation and presentations throughout the meetings.
