Studentenflat den Oranjestad ta un proyecto innovativo focused on improving student welfare and revitalizing the city center.

On Monday afternoon, Minister of Housing and Infrastructure, Drs. Rene Herdé, attended the groundbreaking ceremony at the former Public Prosecutor’s Office (OM) building in Oranjestad. The building will be transformed into student apartments combined with commercial space.

The project is a collaboration between the Government of Aruba, the University of Aruba (UA), and the Fundacion Cas pa Comunidad Arubano (FCCA). This partnership reflects what can be achieved when government, the private sector, and the community work together toward a shared vision. The initiative plays a key role in the renewal and revitalization of downtown Oranjestad.

Also present at the ceremony were Prime Minister Mike Eman, Minister of Education Gerlien Croes, Minister of Finance Geoffrey Wever, Julie Wever and Giovanni Anthony (directors of FCCA), Sue-Ann Lee (Rector of UA), architect Raffy Kock, and contractor CH.

The day marked an important milestone in development that will transform infrastructure and support long-term economic growth in Oranjestad. More than just the start of a construction project, the initiative represents a broader revitalization effort that will benefit the community in the future.

“With this foundation, we are not only renovating a structure, but strengthening the future we leave behind for the next generation,” Minister Herdé stated.

The project reflects the government’s commitment to solid infrastructure, sustainable development, and forward-thinking planning. The Government of Aruba continues to prioritize strategic infrastructure investments that promote a resilient, sustainable, and high-quality economy across the island.

Minister Herdé also thanked Minister Wever for his initiative and perseverance in bringing the project to life, noting that it originated during the previous cabinet and has now become a reality. Appreciation was also extended to FCCA, the University of Aruba, contractor CH, and the architects for their support and collaboration.
