ORANJESTAD (AAN):
Information from Philipsburg indicates that the latest session of the Judicial Four-Country Consultation (Justitieel Vierlanden Overleg – JVO) began over the weekend in St. Maarten, bringing together justice ministers from across the Kingdom of the Netherlands to reach important agreements on justice and security.

The meeting was attended by Minister of Justice of Aruba, Mr. drs. Arthur Dowers, alongside Minister of Justice of St. Maarten Nathalie Tackling, Foort van Oosten representing the Netherlands, and Charles Cooper of Curaçao, who represented Minister Shalten Hato.

The discussions formed part of ongoing efforts to strengthen cooperation within the Kingdom, with the primary objective of ensuring greater safety and security for all communities. Key topics included joint strategies to combat organized crime, crimes that undermine the rule of law, and the urgent need to expand personnel capacity to tackle drug trafficking routes from South America through the Caribbean to Europe and vice versa.

In addition, agreements were reached on enhancing preventive cooperation, as well as improving forensic care and support across the islands within the Kingdom.

At the conclusion of the JVO sessions, several agreements were finalized that serve the interests of justice and public safety in each of the Kingdom’s countries. The intensive meetings reflected the shared commitment of justice ministers and senior justice officials to work collaboratively to strengthen legal systems and guarantee security throughout the Kingdom.
