ORANJESTAD (AAN): A tragic incident occurred on Thursday morning involving a tourist who suffered a medical emergency while in the sea at Mangel Halto.
At approximately 10:32 a.m., the first emergency call was received by the Police Central Dispatch via the 911 Alarm Center, reporting that a male tourist was experiencing difficulties in the water and was unresponsive. Emergency services were immediately dispatched to the scene.
Police patrol units from San Nicolas were mobilized with maximum urgency and arrived shortly after.
Upon arrival, police and ambulance personnel found two volunteers performing CPR on the victim at the shoreline. Paramedics quickly took over the resuscitation efforts and used medical equipment to monitor the victim’s heart activity.
Unfortunately, despite all efforts, the man could not be revived. CPR was eventually discontinued, and police requested the presence of a physician at the scene.
Police spokesperson Liliana Rasmijn confirmed that the victim was a 72-year-old male tourist of American nationality.
A forensic doctor from the Police Forensic Team, along with members of the BFTO forensic unit, arrived at the location. The doctor officially pronounced the tourist deceased.
The Victim Support Bureau (Bureau Slachtofferhulp) was also present to provide assistance and emotional support to the family during this difficult time. DIARIO and the Aruba Police Force extend their condolences to the family of the deceased.
