“Funds Are Available to Strengthen the Crisis Management Office,” Says MP Evelyn Wever-Croes

ORANJESTAD (AAN) – While departments such as the Crisis Management Office (CMO) are technically well prepared to handle emergencies, there is a lack of strong and transparent leadership, according to MEP Member of Parliament Evelyn Wever-Croes.

In an interview with DIARIO, the parliamentarian stated that the geopolitical situation in the region presents complex challenges that could potentially impact Aruba and therefore requires clear leadership and timely communication with the community.

Wever-Croes expressed confidence that the CMO and other relevant institutions are operationally prepared to manage potential crises. However, she emphasized that without decisive leadership from the country’s highest authority—the Prime Minister, Mike Eman—the response will fall short of what is required.

“Our problem in Aruba is not a lack of knowledge or preparation within the departments responsible for crisis management,” Wever-Croes said. “The problem lies in weak leadership and a lack of transparency from those governing the country.”

According to the parliamentarian, the failure to allocate funds to strengthen key departments is a clear example of this leadership gap. She stressed that financial resources are essential to reinforcing institutions such as the CMO—and that those resources are currently available.

Wever-Croes pointed out that the government has closed a budget with approximately Afl. 70 million that has not yet been allocated to any specific purpose. She argued that as long as the importance of allocating these funds to strengthen critical departments is not recognized, meaningful progress will not be achieved.
