Thick Black Smoke Visible as Far as Paradera
ORANJESTAD (AAN):
Early Tuesday morning, emergency calls began coming in from residents reporting thick black smoke coming from a house in Residencia Vigia, located along the road from Paradera to Jaburibari.
It was later confirmed that a woman inside the house heard an explosion, and shortly afterward noticed that a fire had started in one of the rooms. Dense smoke quickly began spreading outside the house, causing the woman to panic as she shouted for help from nearby neighbors.
Neighbors immediately raised the alarm and contacted emergency services.
Police patrol units from Noord were dispatched to the scene, while the Alarm Center sent a Fire Department unit from Tanki Flip.
Upon arrival, police observed heavy smoke coming from the roof of a section of the house, which is connected to a nail salon business. An ambulance also arrived after the woman began feeling unwell due to severe smoke inhalation. She was visibly distressed, emotional, and crying.
To allow firefighters and emergency personnel to operate safely in the narrow street, police secured the area and restricted access.
Both the residence and the nail salon reportedly sustained significant damage. The ambulance crew experienced some difficulty maneuvering through the narrow road to reach the victim, but thanks to the professionalism of the ambulance driver, they were able to reach her and provide immediate care. She was given oxygen and examined for possible shock.
Authorities have not yet officially confirmed whether the house and business were completely destroyed. An investigation will be conducted to determine the exact cause of the fire.
